About Productivity Starts at Home Project

Productivity Starts at Home – An Overview

The purpose of the Productivity Starts at Home project is to develop productive habits that 21st Century Mauritian citizens should adopt and put into practice at home.  Among various habits to be adopted by citizens, ten specific habits have been identified as being the most useful when it comes to helping an individual or a group of persons be productive at home.

These ten habits identified by the NPCC, to sustain a culture of productivity among Mauritian citizens, are often unconscious productive behaviours that humans adopt in their daily activities. Henceforth, this training serves the purpose of raising awareness of these unconscious productive behaviours and enhance the manoeuvre of these existing habits and practices among our citizens.

Raising the level of awareness at which we operate in our day-to-day life will enable and encourage citizens to behave in a more productive way thus creating a greater understanding of the impact of our behaviour and actions in different aspects, especially on our physical and social environment.

“Productivity is, above all, an attitude of the mind. It is based on the belief that we can do things better today than yesterday and better tomorrow than today.”

 (Asian Productivity Organisation).

Ten habits identified:

  1. Positive Attitude/Growth Mind set
  2. Clear Goal
  3. Plan
  4. Team Up
  5. Good Communication
  6. Caring
  7. Dignity
  8. Discipline
  9. Continuous Improvement
  10. Civism

This course is not only targeted at the individual but at all the institutions, starting with the family, because when the individual starts to work on himself, he brings changes to the environment and to the people around him. Families, schools, and companies benefit from such a course as individuals and teams analyse critically the way that they perform tasks and realign their actions to be effectively more productive.

While companies are looking for engaged, committed and motivated employees, the work force is looking for recognition, where workers feel fulfilled through a positive work setting and where their contribution are being acknowledged.  When individuals start to consciously develop the right habits by understanding the basic principles of productivity, they will proceed to unleash their inner potential and gain a sense of purpose that both the individual and the organisation will benefit from. At the wider spectrum of society, these habits will also benefit other interconnected institutions such as the family and schools.

Becoming more conscious of the effect that our behaviour and actions have on our interpersonal relationships at home and the workplace and understanding the practical tools that can be integrated through ongoing practice will motivate individuals further into being more productive.

Our productive behaviours will be shaped by the underlying values identified at national level by the NPCC through the Mauritius Leadership Brand, namely, ‘Trusted, Togetherness, Innovation and Excellence’.  The 10 productive habits identified are directly linked to the four values that drive the Leadership Brand for Mauritius.  The four values include:

     I.        TRUSTED:

·         Caring & Empathy

·         Effective Communication

·         Dignity: Self-worth & Self-respect

    II.        EXCELLENCE:

·         Discipline

·         Continuous improvement

  III.        INNOVATING:

·         Positive attitude/growth mind set

·         Setting Goals and Planning

  IV.        TOGETHER:

·         Team Up for better results

·         Civism
