Using a Decision Matrix
A decision matrix is used to compare ideas against one another, using specific criteria. To use the decision matrix, we follow the following steps.
Step 1: List down all the ideas.
Example
What material would be best for creating models of puzzle pieces?
Idea 1: Modeling clay
Idea 2: Caramel cubes
Idea 3: Dice
Idea 4: Centimetre cubes
Idea 5: Foam blocks
Step 2: Identify criteria which will be used to evaluate the ideas.
Example.
- Cost
- Reusability
- Geometry
- Connection
- Cleanliness
- Resilience
- Testability
Step 3: A grading scale must be developed to assign values for each criteria category.
